In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Health Promotion Department and the Friends of Cancer Patients society at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah organized an awareness program on Breast cancer on Thursday, coinciding with the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual international health campaign that aims to increase awareness on breast cancer and to support those affected by disease.
The program, which was presented by Ghada Al Sadiq, was attended by more than 20 employees from the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah and the related health promotion societies at the council. The program was also attended by other government entities, including the Districts and Villages Affairs Department, the Sharjah Police Headquarters, the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, and Sharjah’s Roads and Transport Authority.
HE Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, stressed the importance of raising awareness on breast cancer, which is considered a common disease in the region for both women and men, although it affects women at a higher rate. She added that it is vital to educate the community on the disease, and to encourage people to get tested in order to ensure that they do not carry the disease.
During the program, Ghada Al Sadiq reviewed the factors that increase the risk of breast cancer, and ways to help reduce the risk of developing the disease, as well as the rates of survival, which are linked to the stage of diagnosis. She also reviewed the recommended age to start routinely getting tested for breast cancer.Email This Post
