After 255 consecutive hours of non-stop book sales, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Dubai – the city’s first hosting of the world’s biggest book sale – has officially closed its doors.

The sale’s unique 24-hour a day format saw over 150,000 avid readers, bookworms and curious customers descend on the Sound Stages venue in Dubai Studio City over 11 consecutive days to grab books at 50 – 80 percent off regular retail prices.

As UAE residents and tourists flocked to browse and shop from a selection of over three million brand-new English-language books, a dedicated section featuring Arabic books – made available by Qindeel Printing, Publishing & Distribution, the publishing arm of event partner Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) – proved another crowd-puller. The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Dubai also counted the National Media Council (NMC) and Dubai Production City among its debut partners.

“Bringing the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale to Dubai is the realisation of a long-held dream for both myself and the event founders,” said Mohammed Al Aidaroos, Managing Partner of Ink Readable Books, the sale organiser. “We are appreciative of the unwavering support from our partners and the people of the UAE. Our customers have come from near and far to stock up on books and gifts for the upcoming holiday season.”

With the sale’s huge variety of books in its core children’s, fiction and non-fiction sections, each of which was further filtered down into sub-sections, genres and specialist areas of interest, Al Aidaroos revealed the event’s best sellers.

“Children’s and non-fiction books have proven to be our top-selling genres and we hope to return bigger and better next year with even more books, variety and affordability.”

In addition to making books affordable for all sections of society, the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Dubai underscored its commitment to give back to the community and cultivate a culture of reading.  With sale organisers and event partners donating over 2,000 books to Emirates Red Crescent and Averda through its Red Readerhood Programme, the Dubai Studio City venue also donated 1,000 books to Emirates Red Crescent. Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Dubai customers encouraged by the initiative weighed in by donating a further 3,000 brand-new books bought at the sale. All donated books will go towards benefitting underprivileged children.

With more than 60,000 Arabic books being sold at Big bad Wolf Book Sale Dubai, His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, believes the event has set in motion a unique cultural movement in the UAE.

“This phenomenon grasped the attention of the community in all its segments, drawing them to its vast wealth of knowledge and cultural content across every sector and discipline in both Arabic and English,” said H.E. bin Huwaireb, who also applauded the exhibition organisers for staging an event which further cements Dubai’s status as a leading hub for large-scale international events.

Having seen 150,000-plus bookworms descend on the venue over 11 days, Majed Al Suwaidi, Managing Director of Dubai Production City, added: “The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale has undoubtedly been a tremendous success for our community. Hosting this unique event at our Sound Stages in Dubai Studio City has further established our standing as one of the largest venues in the Arab region. In support of the UAE government’s vision to nurture a culture of reading, and to realise our objective of empowering society with knowledge and innovation, we have provided over 1,000 books to Emirates Red Crescent and Averda through the event’s Red Readerhood Programme.”
