Screening of an Awards Winning Pakistani Documentary “Indus Blues” in Dubai
Pakistani award winning documentary “Indus Blues: The Forgotten Music of Pakistan” was screened at the Ismaili Center Dubai on Wednesday 25 June 2019. The event was attended by diplomats, local dignitaries and a large number of Pakistani community. The documentary was very well appreciated by the audience. The event was arranged by Pakistan Consulate Dubai in collaboration with Ismaili Centre, Dubai and Poetic Strokes.
The live performance of Pakistani folk musicians after the screening of movie also enthralled the audience. Several folk songs in Sindhi, Balochi and Pashto were played.
Addressing to the event, Consul General of Pakistan, HE Ahmed Amjad Ali said that display of culture is a unifying force and such events are attended by art lovers from all walks of life and all nationalities.
“There is great diversity in Pakistani folk music, which represents our rich cultural heritage. This event has provided an opportunity to present and promote soft image of Pakistan”, he added.
Vice President of the Ismaili Community of the UAE, Aziz Merchant welcomed the audience, spoke of the special bond that the Ismaili Community has with Pakistan and emphasized how “the Ismaili Centre Dubai regularly promotes a culture of tolerance, pluralism and understanding through the performing arts.”
Indus Blues explores the struggle of Pakistani folk musicians, who are trying to sustain their art and keep the fading art alive in a world dominated by modern musical instruments. In fact it highlights the struggle and plight of folk musicians and fading craftsmen. The Producer of the documentary is Jawad Sharif. The documentary has won many International awards worldwide.
