Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club were once again extremely pleased to welcome back a strong contingent of golf societies all vying to become the 2018-2019 Conares Golf Society League Champions.

After round one in the BMW League it was tight affair with only one society claiming a win on the opening fixture. It was the society of Happy Hookers who obviously didn’t live up to their name to produce some fine golf to defeat Kegs 2 and claim all 6 points on offer to claim top spot in the league. The other match two matches in the league couldn’t be separated on the day with the Angry Birdies and Gulf Rock both winning a game each in their match for an opening 3 points. Was the same result for the South African Golf Society versus Dubai Irish Golf Society who also won a game each resulting in a draw and 3 points each to start off their campaign.

The opening round in the worldwide golf league could not be closer as all matches ended up winning a game each to all claim 3 points. A replay of last year’s final saw the Rising Etihad Golf Society come up against last year’s winners Indian Expats both produced fine golf and couldn’t be separated. The other two games saw new comers to the GSL Construction Executives Golf Society take on the White Rose golf society and the GTI society played the SGB Naboodah golf society all winning 1 game each for an opening draw and 3 points. This league is setting up to be tight one.

As well as the matches, competitors had a chance to win day prizes for best betterball stableford score. It was the pair of Rory Thomson & Brian Williams (White Rose GS) who produced some fantastic golf and a total of 40 points to the Day’s prizes. They both won 225AED pro shop vouchers for their efforts. Second place only on countback also on 40 points was won by Hanief Sallie & Aslam Semaar (SAGS), giving them both a 175 AED pro shop voucher. Third place was claimed by Rob Lightfoot & Jonathon Webb 39 points (Happy Hookers) receiving 125AED pro shop vouchers each. Final prize of the day for 4th place winning 75AED pro shop vouchers each was Namir Al Naimi + Sami Butt (Rising Etihad GS) also on 39 points. Other registered GSL teams were also able to sign up & play alongside the GSL match fixtures for a chance to win the day prizes.

The Next round of the GSL will be hosted at SGSC on the 3rd of October & will see the 2nd round matches from the Conares League. There will also be the day’s prizes up for grabs for the teams on a rest week & the Conares Leagues to get involved in. The 2018/19 Season looks to be one of the most competitive yet.
