Maldives Welcomed The 1.5 Millionth Tourist of 2019

The Maldives welcomed the 1.5 Millionth Tourist of 2019. The event was held at Velana International Airport. The 1.5 Millionth Tourist Mrs Marina Kazakova arrived from Aeroflot Airline SU320. She was received by officials of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), together with the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), Maldives Immigration and representatives of the Maldives tourism industry.

The commemoration of the event started with the stamping of the 1.5 millionth tourist’s passport by the Maldives Immigration officer. Mrs. Marina Kazakova and her husband were escorted with a traditional Maldivian bodu beru performance to the VIP lounge area. They were welcomed by the honorable Ali Waheed, Minister of Tourism, Mr. Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr. Moosa Solih, Acting Managing Director of MACL, and Chief Guest Mr. Ahmed Nazeer, Secretary General of MATI. The venue was decorated for the ceremony and the couple was awarded with a congratulatory certificate and special gifts representing traditional Maldivian culture and tourism.

Mrs. Marina Kazakova and her husband, from Russia, were awarded with a complimentary holiday package for 6 nights sponsored by Mirihi Island Resort with return tickets sponsored by MMPRC. This is their 7th time to the Maldives.

This milestone was achieved 38 days ahead of the estimated time and would not have been achieved without the marketing efforts to promote Maldives within the year. A total of 130 events were held including fairs, roadshows, media FAM trips and joint campaigns among them. By the end of September 2019 a total of 1,251,690 tourists had arrived. This is an increase of 13.68% from the same duration last year, with a total of 1,080,459 tourists. By the end of 2018, more than 1.4 million tourists visited the Maldives.

Hamburg expects increasing numbers of Gulf travellers in 2020

Come Together – The Hamburg Beatles Experience 27-29 March 2020

Fleming’s Selection Hotel Hamburg City – Hamburg’s new luxurious five-star hotel

Fleming’s Selection Hotel Hamburg City will be the fifth Fleming’s Selection Hotel to open in Europe. The hotel is set in a traditional Hamburg-style former traders’ office building from 1890 and combines a historic feel with a warm and contemporary hotel concept.

International Tea Day: Emirates and Dilmah celebrate 27 years of the perfect brew with world’s highest tea appreciation masterclass

A master class in the appreciation of Ceylon Tea took place at 40,000 feet when Emirates and Dilmah celebrated a 27-year partnership on board an Emirates A380 flight from Dubai to London this week.

Held at the iconic A380 On-board Lounge by Dilhan Fernando, CEO, Dilmah Tea and the founder of Dilmah, Merrill J. Fernando ahead of International Tea Day on 15th December, the master class was the first of its kind held in the skies.

Emirates and Dilmah have enjoyed a longstanding partnership of brewing the finest teas on board and in Emirates airport lounges around the world. Today, the airline serves a special selection of 12 Dilmah teas catering to the tastes and sensory preferences of all its customers – including an exclusive tea created just for the airline.

“Our commitment to providing a world class dining experience on board runs through everything from the quality of ingredients in our menus to the drinks we serve on board. Guests at the master class aboard flight EK31 were also wowed with the world’s highest flair bartending show by Tomek Malek, a world champion flair bartender. Tomek also created a special mocktail – the Dilmah Elixir Breeze – for the audience to taste.

flydubai touches down in Krabi

Becomes first UAE-based airline to offer daily flights to Krabi

flydubai’s inaugural flight has touched down in Krabi in Thailand, becoming the first UAE-based airline to offer flights to the popular holiday destination. The daily flights are operated via a short stop in Yangon, Myanmar and are codeshared with Emirates.

On board the inaugural flight was a senior delegation led by Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Subcontinent and Africa) at flydubai. Upon arrival, the aircraft was greeted by Somkuan Khanngern, the Vice Governer of Krabi, Attaporn Nuang-udom, the Director of Krabi Airport, Uthit Limsakul Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Krabi Office and Pichaya Saisaengchan, Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Dubai and Middle East Office.

“We are delighted to mark the inaugural of our new route to Krabi and to see our network grow further East”, said Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Subcontinent and Africa) at flydubai. “Over the past ten years we have shown our commitment to opening up underserved markets and enabling millions of passengers to travel to more places more often.  This new route will present more travel options for passengers from the UAE and beyond, while giving people from Thailand direct access to Dubai’s travel hub”, Sreedharan added.

Emirates expects a busy travel period ahead of the holiday season

Emirates expects a busy travel period ahead of the holiday season, starting from Thursday 12th December until Friday 20th December, with close to 300,000 Emirates passengers travelling from Dubai to destinations beyond.


The busiest time for departures from Terminal 3 will be on Friday 13th December with close to 40,000 passengers expected. Customers are reminded to check-in and arrive 3 hours early to the airport early to avoid any delays.


Passengers departing from Dubai can physically check in at the airport as early as 24 hours before flight departure, and are requested to check in no later than 2 hours prior to departure, regardless of class of travel. Customers who check in less than 60 minutes prior to their scheduled flight departure will not be accepted for travel. Customers can also check in online on their desktops or mobile devices from 48 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure.


In addition to online check-in services, Emirates also offers convenient car park check-in facilities. Customers can use these to check in and drop off their luggage. Alternatively, customers heading to Emirates Terminal 3 can choose to drop their luggage at one of the 46 dedicated bag drop counters in Economy Class or separate counters in First Class and Business Class from six hours to 90 minutes prior to departure. Families travelling with small children can use dedicated Family counters in Check in Zone 2.


After checking in, passengers are also advised to make sure they get to their boarding gate on time. Gates open 90 minutes before departure, boarding starts 45 minutes before each flight and gates close 20 minutes before departure. If passengers report late Emirates will not be able to accept them for travel. Check-in and gate closure timings will be strictly followed to ensure flights depart on schedule.


Close to 430,000 Emirates passengers are also expected to arrive into Dubai from 20 December until 30 December to celebrate the holidays and New Year period. Emirates passengers arriving into Dubai for the holiday celebrations can enjoy a seamless experience through DXB by using the smart gates to clear immigration quickly as well as pre-book the home delivery baggage service to reduce the wait time at the airport.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) awarded dnata Brazil the IATA Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) Registration, following the successful completion of a comprehensive audit of the company and its ground-handling operations at Guararapes–Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC).

Emirates Touches down in Mexico City

Emirates celebrated the inaugural flight of its new daily service from Dubai to Mexico City via Barcelona. The Emirates Boeing 777-200LR touched down in Mexico City yesterday at 16:15 local time, marking the airline’s first passenger flight to Mexico.


Emirates flight EK255, with a group of VIP guests and media on board, was welcomed by Mexico International Airport with a water cannon salute.


Salem Obaidalla, Emirates Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Americas said: “We are excited to start a new chapter in Emirates’ history, offering a seamless connection between Dubai, Barcelona and Mexico City. We expect this service to generate high demand and enhance business, culture and leisure connections as well as boost tourism and commerce between these markets.”


“Emirates’ arrival in Mexico City via Barcelona yesterday is the culmination of a lot of planning and hard work. We would like to thank the authorities and our partners in both Spain and Mexico for their support of the new route and look forward to provide our unique product and award-winning service to travellers,” he added.


The aircraft deployed on the route is Emirates’ newly refurbished two-class Boeing 777-200LR which offers 38 Business Class seats in a 2-2-2 layout, and 264 seats in Economy Class. While the Business Class seats are in the same design and shape of Emirates’ latest lie-flat seats, they are now two inches wider for a more comfortable journey.


In addition, the new Business Class cabin features a social area – unique to the Boeing 777-200LR fleet. The mini lounge area features snacks such as crisps, sandwiches and fruit, as well as beverages for customers to help themselves to during the flight. Economy Class seats onboard the 777-200LR have also been refreshed to the latest colour palette of soft greys and blues. The ergonomically designed seats come with full leather headrests that have flexible side panels and can also be adjusted vertically for optimum support.


Customers in all classes can enjoy up to 4,500 channels of on-demand entertainment on ice with 600 movies, over 200 hours of TV, and thousands of music tracks every month. The aircraft is also equipped with Wi-Fi and Live TV across all classes.


The new 777 flight also offers up to 14 tonnes of cargo, opening up access to more global markets for Mexican exports such as avocados, berries, and other fresh produce. Emirates SkyCargo has been flying freighters to/from Mexico City since 2014 already and since April 2018 has carried over 33,000 tonnes of cargo on the route.

Mexico’s capital is one of the most important cultural and financial centres in the Americas, accounting for nearly a third of the nation’s GDP. Located in the Valley of Mexico at an altitude of 2,240 metres, the city is famous for its historic centre known as Zocalo, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mexico City is also an important trade and industrial city, specifically in the automotive, medical supplies and pharmaceutical industries.


Dubai is also increasing in popularity with Mexican travellers with many attractive offerings including world-class shopping, eclectic architecture, and iconic landmarks including the world’s tallest building, The Burj Khalifa and one of the world’s largest malls – The Dubai Mall. Travelers enjoy visiting the city for its year-round sunshine, stunning beaches and fine dining options including Michelin star restaurants.


Nationals of Mexico, Spain and the UAE do not require visas to travel to any of the three countries and Emirates’ new daily service will allow travel between these destinations in style and comfort. Emirates flight EK 255 departs Dubai at 03:30 local time, arriving in Barcelona at 08:00 before departing again at 09:55 and arriving into Mexico City at 16:15 on the same day. The return flight EK256 departs Mexico City at 19:40 local time, arriving in Barcelona the next day at 13:25. EK256 departs once again from Barcelona at 15:10 bound for Dubai where it arrives at 00:45 the following day, facilitating convenient onward connections to numerous destinations in India, South East Asia and the Middle East.
