Chicago Theater Works is pleased to announce a limited run engagement of  EXPOSED starring Leslie Jordanstarting Wednesday, April 24th through Saturday, April 27th at 8:00pm. The theater is located at 1113 W. Belmont Avenue in the Belmont Theater District.

Jordan, an Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian, is best known for his standout roles in “Sordid Lives,” “American Horror Story,” “The Help” and as Beverly Leslie on NBC’s  hit series, “Will & Grace.”  He is also now playing a leading role in the new comedy series, “The Cool Kids” on FOX.

“We are thrilled to continue to expand the offerings at Chicago Theater Works,” says Bill Collins, General Manager of the venue.  “Leslie Jordan’s personal and hilarious stories will have guests captivated from the moment he walks onstage.  And the charming surroundings of Chicago Theater Works makes the experience all the more intimate.”

Mr. Jordan has been entertaining guests for over four decades.  In EXPOSED, Leslie invites his audience behind-the-scenes of his childhood and career.  His memoirs include his life experience as a flamboyant youth raised as a Southern Baptist as well as his treasured anecdotes from his renowned stage and television performances.  His show is laughter-inducing but at times also comes with a hint tears.

REPLAY LINCOLN PARK EXTENDS GAME OF THRONES POP UP BAR THROUGH PREMIERE OF FINAL SEASON – APRIL 14

  • In Advance of the Final Season of Game of Thrones, Fans Will Be Able to Take a Trip to Westeros and Live Their Ultimate Fandom Fantasies

The countdown to Game of Thrones’ eighth season premiere is on, and Replay Lincoln Park, 2833 N. Sheffield, Chicago’s favorite arcade bar, has announced it will extend its most ambitious transformation to date, a Game of Thrones pop-up experience for fans to enjoy in advance of the final season. Admission to the pop up is free, but guests may purchase a VIP Bucketlist Experience, which includes a glass of Ommegang Witte, Ommegang King in the North or Queen of the Seven Kingdoms or $10 towards a beverage of choice, a commemorative print, a commemorative t-shirt and express entry to the bar for $30.

Filled with charismatic-but-flawed warriors, ruthless monarchs, and a whole bunch of wonderful, likable, good-hearted characters that are sure to be killed off in heartbreaking fashion, Replay has been transformed into the seven kingdoms of Westeros, providing guests a variety of photo opportunities. Fans can explore Winterfell, Casterly Rock, Highgarden and other houses, take pictures with Dire Wolves, a Dragon-Slaying Ballista and more, in addition to the original Throne Room, the Wall of Faces, White Walkers and majestic dragons.

With the pop-up extension, Replay is hosting a variety of Game of Thrones events, including:

  • Game of Thrones Trivia: 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
  • “For the Throne” Ommegang beer release: Ommegang is hosting an official beer release and raffling off prizes at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28.
  • Cosplay Karaoke: For the duration of the pop up, guests are invited to show up in cosplay, sing a song, and get a t-shirt. Karaoke kicks off Wednesday, March 20.
  • Crimson Wedding Feast: Guests are invited to experience a Crimson Wedding Feast, featuring bottomless Ommegang beers, Dornish wine and cider from 7 – 9 p.m. Sunday, March 31. Tickets to participate are $60 and may be purchased here.
  • The Wight Walk 5k: On Saturday, April 6 at 11:30 a.m., Replay will host a 5k race from Oak Street Beach to Replay Lincoln Park. Guests are invited to choose between being on team Zombie or Human, receive a t-shirt, a free beer, and some protein packed dragon jerky upon their arrival at the pop-up. Tickets to participate can be purchased for $25 here.
  • Game of Thrones Bingo: Cersei will host a free, themed Bingo at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. Guests can enjoy themed prizes, challenges, and Game of Thrones swag.
  • A Thong of Ice and Fire Remount: With a new cast and several new Game of Thrones-themed performances, Replay is hosting its second Burlesque show at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 11.
  • Finale Preshow Party!: Guests are invited to join Replay on Sunday, April 14 to toast the new season and petition George R. R. Martin to complete the book he’s been working on for literally eight years in the only language he understands – a screed hand-written on a gigantic scroll! Replay artists have handcrafted a wonderful petition that guests can sign before it is strapped to a flock of ravens and dropped in Martin’s P.O. box.

Specialty cocktails, including a “Dothaquiri” and mead on tap are available throughout the pop-up, and the bar is also collaborating with Ommegang Brewery, offering limited quantities of their exclusive King in the North (barrel aged stout), Queen of Seven Kingdoms (sour blond ale), Hand of the Queen (barleywine) and Mother of Dragons (smoked porter blended with cherry kriek).

Replay Lincoln Park’s Pop Up Squad, a group of artists that create the concept, décor and artistic elements of Replay’s popular pop-ups, is behind the design for the Game of Thrones pop-up. The team for the pop-up includes Jeremy Steffen, Raquel Hung, Luis Colindres, Tom Molloy, Tristan Young and Adam Michaels with the help of special guest artists Hokulani Cabebe, Bryn Gleason, Olivia Love and Justin Jezewski.

Replay offers guests over 60 free vintage arcade games, including pinball, air hockey and more. They also have skeeball and billiards. DUBAI MARKS KUWAIT NATIONAL DAY WITH CITYWIDE CELEBRATIONs

Dubai marked the joyous occasion of Kuwait National Day with citywide celebrations; reflecting the strong and fraternal bond between the two nations. The festivities featured family-oriented social, cultural and entertainment events including a concert by the Kuwaiti Miami Band at Global Village and activities at Dubai Food Festival’s (DFF) signature event, swyp Beach Canteen.

Residents and visitors to Dubai can expect to see the national flag of Kuwait displayed on the iconic Burj Khalifa on 25 February. On the same day, DFF’s swyp Beach Canteen will host a live cooking demonstration at 5:30pm by Kuwaiti Chef Jameela Al Lenqawi, followed by a celebration dinner by Chef Jameela and restaurateur Talal Al Rashid, starting 7:00pm.

In addition, the Kuwait Business Council will host a programme of cultural and sports activities in partnership with swyp Beach Canteen, which runs daily until 26 February and showcases a range of products by Kuwaiti retailers, performances by a Kuwaiti band and a series of fitness and martial arts workshops in collaboration with UFC Gym.

Private Government Launches ‘Come and Take’

Dubai Based Metal Collective’s second record now available at all Virgin Megastores and Online across all streaming services.

UAE-based metal collective Private Government have started 2019 with the release of their second album Come and Take (created and titled as Μολὼν Λαβέ in Greek) as a very limited “Olympus Bundle” digipak edition, which includes additional segue tracks and a Private Government plectrum in the package. This version is now available in all Virgin Megastore outlets in the country, distributed by Cavo Music, and is also available through CD baby.com and other online vendors for international fans. The collective hosted a listening event on Friday 8th at Moto Cafe to celebrate the release.

Inspired by a distant dystopian future, ‘Come and Take’ is a journey focusing on the human spirit’s resilience and endeavour to always rise again in the face of tyranny.

“What I tried to accomplish with this album is to create a timeless record”, says Miltiadis Kyvernitis, founder of Private Government. “I am very proud of what we have produced on this album, and I am certain that we will put Middle Eastern Metal on the global map with the theme we have chosen.”

Miltiadis Kyvernitis is joined on the album by lead guitarist and co-producer Joe Akkawi.

“We have produced something special here”, added Akkawi. “We see this record as a stepping stone in the right direction for the local music scene and we hope to inspire other bands to write, record and release music.”

‘Come and Take’ features a line-up of guest musicians from a wide variety of musical backgrounds including award winning hip-hop producer Swerte, internationally acclaimed bassist Rami Lakkis, industry vocalist Nadeem Bibby of regional progressive-metal band Anuryzm, guitarist Royden Mascarenhas of Point of View, Serge Lutfi of Aramaic and soul-singing sensation Hamdan Al-Abri of ABRI.

SAE Dubai to Host ‘Study 4 A Day’ workshops for students interested in a career in creative media

  • Students are invited to come for a taste of a career in the areas of Audio, Animation, Graphic Design, Film-making and Games Development

SAE, the world’s leading educator in creative media industries will host a study day at its Dubai campus on Saturday, 23rd February for students interested in a career in the creative fields.

The full-day workshops will give participants a chance to experience student life, learn from the industry professionals as well as provide access to hands-on training with a taster of coursework from degree programs. The study day is great way to experiment with the creative media fields and can provide great insight for those who are still unsure of their study plans. The lecturers will introduce participants to technical skills in their discipline of choice and provide insight into careers in the chosen field.

Study 4 A Day will cover the following curriculum across the various creative disciplines:

  • Animation: Participants will be introduced to the principles of Modelling, including both 2D and 3D Animation software, character animation, game art, 3D modelling and rigging and visual effects.
  • Audio: Participants will be introduced to the principles of Audio production, including recording and music production software, studio signal flow, microphone techniques, and other audio elements including mixing techniques.
  • Graphic Design: Participants will be introduced to the basics of the principles of Graphic Design, including Adobe design software, typography, logos, vector based designs versus raster based designs and poster collage design.
  • Film: Participants will be introduced to basic principles of Film production, including storytelling, cinematography and post-production.
  • Games: Participants will be introduced to the tools and software used in Games Development in addition to the basics of programming, games design and level design.

The workshops will run from 10 am to 4 pm and students will receive a certificate of attendance. The event is open to anyone in Year 10 and above or aged 16 years and above.

FUNN Opens Registration for Seventh Edition of Sharjah International Children & Youth Film Festival

  • This year’s edition comes with added new award categories and an extended age-group

FUNN, the Sharjah-based organization that promotes and supports media arts learning for children and the youth, has announced the opening of registration for the 7th edition of Sharjah International Children & Youth Film Festival (SICYFF).

Children and youth, who are aspiring and/or professional filmmakers with a passion for cinematography, are encouraged to submit their entries to the organisation, no later than 31st March 2019.

It is notable that organized annually as Sharjah International Children Film Festival, this year the event has been renamed Sharjah International Children & Youth Film Festival to reflect the extended age-group and new added categories for this edition.

As per its youth-focused theme, the festival, this year, comes with three new award categories in addition to the existing seven award categories, namely Best Child-made Film, Best Student-made Film, Best GCC Short Film, Best International Short Film, Best Animation Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Feature Film. The added new categories are Best Teenage-made Film, Best Youth-made Film and Best UAE Short Film.

Sheikha Jawaher Bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of FUNN and Sharjah International Children & Youth Film Festival, said: “Widening the scope of the Festival, this year we have set new objectives, thereby including participation of youth aged 18-30 years, in addition to children and teenagers. Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Festival has been renamed reflecting the interest and commitment of His Highness to support youth in contributing towards uplifting the filmmaking industry.”

Sheikha Jawaher added: “The festival is open for all cinema professionals, aspiring filmmakers, and young film enthusiasts, in all categories. We hope that the seventh edition will take the festival to another new level, giving young talents the opportunity to promote the Arab film industry and make a mark in the regional and global film market.”

The annual celebration of cinema and movies aims to promote creativity and talent in children and young people by providing them a platform to nurture and develop their skills in visual arts and showcase their filmmaking talent to the world. The purpose of the festival is to allow the young aspirants to thrive as creative and inspiring filmmakers, who can make competitive Emirati and Arab movies, based on their dreams and ideas.
