JioTV to stream Abu Dhabi T10 League matches live

330 + million subscribers of Jio to have access to T10 tournament across India

More than 330 million subscribers of Jio – the largest mobile data network in the world – will be able to
watch Abu Dhabi T10 League matches live on their smartphones across India. The live stream of all
matches will be available on the dedicated cricket channel of JioTV.

T10 Sports Management, owner of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, has signed a long term agreement with JioTV to broadcast the Abu Dhabi T10 Leagues matches live from Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi from November 14 to 24, 2019. The live streaming of Abu Dhabi T10 League will be in partnership with SONY Liv and the same feed will be carried by Jio TV.

Jio has been at the forefront of accelerating the digital transformation of the country by making digital lifeaccessible for every Indian. This deal gives JioTV rights to broadcast all the 29 matches live thereby making the breakthrough cricket league accessible to the 330+ million Jio subscribers – a number that is growing by the day. It also offers greater visibility for advertisers and stakeholders to a larger audience in India –the world’s largest cricketing nation. In the past JioTV has consistently presented unique digital experiencesof popular sporting events including the Winter Olympics, India’s leading T20 leagues, Mzansi SuperLeague, tri-nation Nidahas Trophy, English Football League, Carabao Cup finals among others.

This year too, Bazm-e Urdu arranged its annual gathering “Mehfil-e Urdu” on 29th August 2019 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Oud Metha Rd., Dubai. The program was divided in three segments; “Awards Distribution”, “Ruu-ba Ruu”, a talk show and a “Musical Tribute” to India’s legendary poet, Kaifi Azmi. The year 2019 is recognized as the birth centenary celebrations year of Kaifi Azmi and to commemorate him, Bazm-e Urdu had designed a variety of programs on his work and life.

Within its initiative, Bazm-e Urdu is determined to establish three regular awards beside several other honors. These three awards’ categories are named as 1. Josh-e Urdu Award; each year this award is presented to a person whose love for Urdu has influenced Urdu literature. This year’s Josh-e Urdu Award was conferred upon a well known Indian theorist, literary critic, and scholar, Dr. Gopi Chand Narang, for his outstanding services for Urdu literature. 2. Alamdaar-e Urdu Award category falls to those personalities who are dedicated to re-establish Urdu’s well-enjoyed status for Urdu lovers. Alamdaar-e Urdu Award 2019 was presented to Muhammad Ahmed Shah, President Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi for his dedication and services for Urdu. Last but not least 3. Passbaan-e Urdu Award; This category defines those who, regardless of being non-Urdu speakers, are putting their efforts for the betterment of Urdu. This year this award was presented to Dr. Mala Mehra, Principal Hoerner College, Lucknow for her support to the cause of Urdu.

To honor Kaifi Azmi’s achievements, this year another award was added to the ceremony “Kaifi Azmi Award for Urdu Lyricist” and was presented to Bollywood’s famous lyricist Irshad Kamil for penning popular and poetically distinguished Urdu Songs for Bollywood movies.

Program’s second part was a talk-show “Ruu-ba Ruu”. This segment was presented by Bazm-e Urdu’s most talented member Ms. Tarannum Ahmed whose unique style of interviewing the celebrities is famous not only within UAE circle but also among India’s crowd. She was Ruu-ba Ruu (face to face) with famous Bollywood actress and Kaifi Azmi’s daughter Shabana Azmi who was here to be a part of the centenary celebrations of his father. Shaban Azmi discussed her father’s life and his work with pride. His association with Socialist Party was also discussed. This segment was hugely applauded by the audience.

Mehfil-e Urdu’s third segment was a musical tribute to Kaifi Azmi’s poetry which was presented jointly by yet another film and TV superstar Kanwaljit Singh and National Award-winning actress Tanvi Azmi, who has acted in films including ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Tanvi is married to Shabana Azmi’s brother. This segment was bejeweled with Kaifi’s songs mainly from Bollywood films performed by the local artists. The audience was charmed by their beautiful singing and enjoyed their performance.

Our magazine “JOSH-E-URDU 2019” was released by distinguished guests and members of Bazm-e Urdu on this occasion. This magazine, quite popular amongst Urdu lovers, is released annually, both in Urdu and Roman English, detailing our previous year’s activities, office bearers’ reports, articles on celebrities participating in the function and other topics. This year’s magazine has few added attractions including appreciation, comments and valuable suggestions from readers and audiences and a section dedicated to articles written by children in Urdu language.

Technology company transforming GCC laundry business set for major growth in UAE, region

JustClean says US$3 billion industry set to move almost exclusively online within five years

The company building a thriving online marketplace for the

US$3 billion laundry industry in the Gulf region today outlined its dynamic expansion plans to bring monthly growth in the UAE and international markets.

JustClean, established three years ago by Kuwaiti brothers Athbi and Nouri Al-Enezi, has signed up more than 100 laundry businesses in the UAE since introducing its marketplace application in the Emirates in October 2018.

Thousands of UAE consumers have joined the growing tide of people in the Gulf using the JustClean app to get their laundry done, and the technology company says the industry could be an almost exclusively online business in the region within five years.

“We’re looking to sign up at least ten more laundries in the UAE each month for the rest of the year and into 2020 as we expand our logistics operation in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah,” said Co-Founder Athbi Al-Enezi today.

“We’re going to be doubling the size of our fleet of delivery vans and drivers by the end of the year, and we’re following a similar pattern of growth in Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, as well as expanding to markets beyond the GCC.”

Every day, growing numbers of Gulf consumers use the JustClean platform to get their laundry done, thanks to a quick and easy process delivering wash and iron, dry clean and many more laundry solutions.

Currently operating in the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain and the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, JustClean will open for business in Jeddah and Riyadh before the end of the year, with entry into other international markets to follow early next year.

Established in Kuwait in 2016, JustClean has revolutionized a traditional off-line service to make it user friendly, convenient and hassle free for consumers, at the same time giving laundry service providers who sign up access to a huge customer base.

Just a year after its launch the company attracted investment by Faith Capital Holding, the Kuwait-based venture capital fund, whose Deputy Chairman and CEO, Mohammad Jaffar, was installed as CEO of the start up.

In February 2019 Faith Capital announced it had closed an $8 million Series A round of financing in the company, enabling its growth across the GCC region, while also expanding the logistics and SaaS (software as a service) arms of the business.

GEMS Education welcomes 18,000 new students and 1,800 new teachers for 2019-20

Schools in UAE sprang back to life for the first day of the new academic year on Sunday 1 September. It promises to be an exciting year ahead as GEMS Education introduces a host of innovative programmes and teaching methods that will expand the opportunities available to the 125,000 students enrolled across its 48 UAE schools, of which 18,000 are newly enrolled. In addition, some 1,800 new teachers have joined the network, each carefully picked for their individual expertise and talents, and collectively adding immeasurable value to not only GEMS Education schools, but also the country’s education sector as a whole.

Emirates Diplomatic Academy Welcomes Record Number of Students in Fifth Academic Year

Academy receives 80 students during orientation week

The Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA) today welcomed 80 students at the 2019 orientation, representing the largest cohort since its inception. Over the course of the orientation week, EDA received its fifth cohort of students for the Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) in UAE Diplomacy and International Relations programme, and its third cohort for the Master of Arts (MA) in Diplomacy and International Relations programme.

In preparation for the new academic year 2019-2020, the orientation offered students an introduction into 21st century diplomacy and addressed the most pressing challenges of the contemporary geopolitical climate. The event also included an overview of the Academy and its departments, as well as introductions of the faculty members.

His Excellency Bernardino León, Director General of EDA, said: “These new students follow in the footsteps of many great UAE diplomats and will continue the country’s strong tradition of soft power that has seen the UAE achieve a truly significant influence on the global stage.”

“As diplomats are often the first touchpoint in shaping relations with other countries and their decision-makers, is it imperative that their conduct and abilities reflect the nation’s values. The PGD in UAE Diplomacy and International Relations is an academic programme that provides aspiring diplomats with the tools and insights needed to tackle today’s geopolitical challenges as the country’s top representatives across multiple sectors. Meanwhile, the Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Relations is an additional programme for students who have completed the PGD, enabling them to solidify and build on their knowledge of global and regional issues, particularly those relevant to the UAE and the wider Middle East.

Established by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in 2014, EDA has become the driving force in the nation’s efforts to qualify talented men and women for international careers and positions of leadership in support of the nation’s foreign policy objectives. The Academy will not only educate and prepare UAE nationals to serve and represent the country, but will also provide them with the guidance and insights necessary to enable them to explore regional and global issues that affect the UAE and, ultimately, consolidate and enhance the nation’s international standing.

Sumitomo SHI FW Wins Contract for CFB Boiler in Taiwan

Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW) announces today that it has been awarded a contract by Cheng Loong Corporation, CLC for a CFB steam generator for their Chupei Mill in Taiwan. Commercial operation of the new boiler is scheduled for July 2021.

SFW will design and supply the 19 MWe CFB steam generator and auxiliary equipment and also provide technical advisory services for erection and commissioning. The CFB will be designed to burn paper mill rejects as primary fuel and paper mill sludges and coal as secondary fuels. This is the second CFB that SFW has supplied to CLC. In 2012, Sumitomo Heavy Industries (SHI), as a licensee of SFW, delivered a 35 MWe CFB boiler firing coal and tire derived fuel for CLC’s Houli Mill.

Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI) announced today that in a randomized controlled study involving 150 ICU patients recently published as a letter in Intensive Care Medicine, researchers investigated whether monitoring with Masimo ORi™ (Oxygen Reserve Index) could reduce the time critically ill patients spend with moderate hyperoxia, compared to monitoring with oxygen saturation (SpO2) alone.1 ORi is an index of oxygenation in the moderate hyperoxic region, defined as arterial partial pressure of oxygen, PaO2in the range of 100 to 200 mmHg). As an “index” with a scale between 0.0 and 1.0, ORi can be trended to notify clinicians of changes in a patient’s oxygen reserve.

Dr. Sigismond Lasocki and colleagues at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire of Angers, France (CHU Angers), sought to evaluate whether controlling the fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) in mechanically ventilated patients based on monitoring with ORi, rather than with SpO2 alone, could reduce the time patients spend in a moderately hyperoxic state (PaO2 ≥ 100 mmHg). 150 critically ill adult patients, all of whom were mechanically ventilated for at least 2 days, were divided randomly into an ORi and a control group. ORi and SpO2 were measured using the Masimo Root® Patient Monitoring and Connectivity Platform and rainbow® sensors. In the ORi group, nurses were instructed to decrease FiO2 when ORi ≥ 0.01. In the control (SpO2 only) group, they were instructed to decrease FiO2 when SpO2 ≥ a prescribed upper limit. PaO2 was measured by analyzing arterial blood gasses.

Data from 75 patients in the ORi group and 71 patients in the control group were analyzed. The researchers found that monitoring with ORi allowed a statistically significant reduction in the percentage of days patients spent with hyperoxia without a statistically significant increase in hypoxia: 14% were hyperoxic (0 to 33%) in the ORi group vs. 33% (11 to 56%) in the control group (p = 0.003). The percentage of hours spent with hyperoxia was also “much lower” using ORi: 7.4% were hyperoxic (0 – 24.8%) in the ORi group vs. 17.3% (3.8 – 43.1%) in the control group for PaO2 ≥ 100 mmHg (p = 0.0069), and 0% (0 – 7.2%) in the ORi group vs. 5.6% (0 – 18.1%) in the control group for PaO2 ≥ 120 mmHg (p = 0.0037).

The researchers concluded that “The use of ORi monitoring to titrate oxygen rates allowed an important reduction of the time spent with hyperoxia compared with the use of SpO2 alone, probably because nurses are reluctant to decrease oxygen rates when SpO2 is in a normal range. A nurse-driven protocol to adjust FiO2 according to SpO2 was already in place in our unit, explaining why the percentage of time with hyperoxia we observed in the control group was much less than usually reported (30 vs 60%). This strategy to decrease oxygen rate according to ORi (which detects high PaO2) may thus be even more efficient in units where there is no protocol to adjust oxygen rates. SpO2 could remain a warning for hypoxia and ORi for hyperoxia. Larger studies are needed to evaluate the clinical benefit of this strategy.”
